Stepping into the Fairy Tale
Growing up in China, Denmark was always this mythical “kingdom of fairy tales” to me, all thanks to Hans Christian Andersen. We loved reading his stories, but we were often told that they were just tales that didn’t exist in the real world. Yet, walking these streets and passing by the beautiful little Danish houses, I felt like I had stepped straight into that supposedly imaginary world. Each small house seemed like a living portrait of the owner’s vision of a happy life, and simply observing them filled my heart with warmth and joy.
That feeling only deepened when I later traveled to historic towns like Ribe, Odense, and Esbjerg. Discovering even more of these enchanting homes left a permanent mark on my heart. I realized I couldn’t just let these precious moments and feelings fade into memory; I had to capture them. I started painting the houses to preserve the profound emotion they woke in me, with the hope that anyone who looks at my canvases might experience that exact same beauty, warmth, and wonder.
In this journal, I’ll share the stories behind my paintings, the inspiration I draw from these houses, and the journey of capturing their essence on canvas. I hope that through my work, you too can step into this fairy tale world and feel the magic that has so deeply touched my heart.
